Tender Issued for Proposed New Municipal/Civic Administration Building

Shelburne, Nova Scotia – The Municipality of the District of Shelburne issued a tender on August 6, 2021, for the construction of a New Municipal/Civic Administration Building. The deadline for tender submissions is September 3, 2021. Council will decide whether to move forward with this project once tender submissions have been reviewed and analyzed.

Since 2016 the Municipality has had the design and construction of a new municipal/civic administration building as one of its top priorities. In 2017, Council purchased 35 acres of land across from the Shelburne Regional High School to secure property for this major project. The current design of the building includes rental space for two Federal departments.

The main part of the current building located at 136 Hammond Street is over 100 years old and currently, does not meet National Building Code requirements nor accessibility standards. Space, air quality and security issues are some of the other primary deficiencies with the existing building. Pending tender results that are satisfactory to Council, it is the intention of Council to hold public information sessions to share the design, anticipated timelines and costs of the building.
