Making it easier, and more affordable, for a student to receive training and find a health care career in Shelburne is one of the goals behind the Roseway Hospital student sponsorship program.
The program is a partnership between Nova Scotia Health Authority and the Municipality of Shelburne, the Town of Shelburne, the Town of Lockeport, the Town of Clark’s Harbour, the Municipality of Barrington, the Roseway Hospital Auxiliary and the Roseway Hospital Foundation.
Another goal of the program is to recruit, and retain new graduates for positions that have been hard to fill. To date, the program has sponsored four former students who are now working at Roseway Hospital.
The sponsorship program is currently looking for applications from students enrolled in, or accepted into a physiotherapy training program.Roseway Hospital Health Care Professional Student Sponsorship Program: Eligibility and Application
“Supporting students who are studying to become a physiotherapist will help us improve access to health care services for patients,” said Jodi Ybarra, Roseway Hospital Site Manager. “I want to thank our community partners who contributed financially to this program and will play a role in encouraging the students to stay in the area long after the terms of the sponsorship program are over.”
Priority will be given to students from Shelburne County, but all applications will be considered. The program will sponsor one physiotherapy student and provide $4000 per year for two years to help with tuition costs. The successful applicant will be expected to work at the Roseway Hospital for at least two years after graduation.
Interested students are asked to provide a completed application form, current resume, official transcript from the appropriate school, three reference letters and a short essay explaining why they want to become a health care provider in a rural area. Application forms are available by contacting:
