l was born in Sandy Point, my parents being Anthony and Enid Thorburn, our much loved patemat grandparents being, John and Elizabeth Thorburn, of Sandy Point with my maternal VanAmburg grandparents living ln Lower Argyle. After a 37 year nursing career, I returned to Nova Scotia, buying, renovating and being integrally involved in every aspect of the re-build of my great grandparent's home in Sandy Point. l am the mother of two adult children, Lee with wife, Amy and Melissa. I am working towards being a lavender field grower, as a niche local farming initiative.
I have been involved in volunteerism throughout my life. As a young teen, a Sunday school teacher; in early adulthood, executive positions in Kinettes, a women's service organization; an environmental group director for the Neyenkut Society. I am a 3rd term Shelburne Heritage Society Museum board member, a director with the West Green Harbour Recreation Association, (WGHRA), a volunteer with the Shelburne Loyalist Food Bank and currently, I am also volunteering with the Shelburne Yacht Club, as they innovate.
I am a passionate family historian of 40 years, and by extension, fascinated by our local history. I am now in my 5th year of curling with the Shelburne Curling Centre. I aspire to learn to sail. I love the outdoors, but most of alI, I am interested in and I care about people. I possess a strong work ethic, and I look forward to partnering and working with fellow Councillors and citizens of Shelburne County to grow and strengthen our communities.
My two favourite words are stewardship and governance.
