The Recreation & Parks Advisory Committee meets the first Thursday of the month at 6:00pm in the Jury Room of the second floor Municipality of Shelburne Administration Building, 136 Hammond Street, Shelburne. Membersof the public are welcome to attend.

Recreation & Parks Department
Goals and Objectives for 2009/10

1. Strengthen partnerships between Municipal Recreation Dept & Community Recreation Halls and Volunteers
 
  • Volunteer recognition
  • Develop and nurture community programming partnerships with recreation groups in the Municipality of the District of Shelburne to “take programming to communities.”
  • Encourage community volunteer leaders to seek training opportunities/certification
  • Equipment Pak (with or without staff)
  • Rec & Parks Advisory Committee Visits to Community Recreation Center monthly meetings (2 per year)
  • Investigate whether or not there may be interest in bulk buying
2. SRHS Community Use and Physical Activity Strategy
 
  • Participate as a SOGoActive Host
  • Support & promote “Keep IT Moving”
  • Follow up on the results of the Ipsos Reid Survey
  • MDS Employee Wellness Program – UNSM Alive
3. Shelburne County Arena
 
  • Assist in recruiting volunteers to serve on the Shelburne County Arena Board
  • Assist the Shelburne County Arena Board to update their Bylaws and Memorandum of Association
  • Complete the Municipal Agreement process between the Town and the Municipality
  • Support the operating and capital needs of the Shelburne County Arena
  • Prepare and provide promotional event posters
4. Trails & Welkum Park& the Albert Acker Memorial Field
 
  • Install interpretive signage on Tom Tigney, Footbridge, and Jordan River Trails
  • Install bench, picnic table, and interpretive signage along the Roseway River Trail
  • Develop a self directed Nature Education Guide for one or more of the Municipal Trails
  • Support, assist, and encourage citizen efforts in establishing trails
  • New raft
  • Repair roof of gazebo beside parking lot
  • Replace fencing as needed
  • 8’ x 10’ Storage shed and Lifeguard Chair
  • Improvements to the Albert Acker Memorial Field as agreed with the Town of Shelburne Parks & Recreation Department
5. To investigate and follow up the needs of Seniors living in the Municipality of Shelburne
 
  • Results of Mini Peoples School
  • Take an Age Friendly Roadshow to each Municipal District to meet with seniors in partnership with the Shelburne County Community Health Board and SWSDA Volunteer Services for Seniors
  • Explore potential partnerships to host a Seniors Info Fair (Services and Assistance programs available to Seniors)
  • Yoga for seniors at the Port Saxon Leisure Hour Club
  • Benches and picnic tables to be located in public Municipal outdoor facilities through the Age Friendly program
  • Promote the Federal New Horizons Program for Seniors
6. To identify and investigate potential pull off/photo opportunity sites and potential boat launch sites in each Municipal District
 
  • Email Councilors to request that they each identify one or two potential sites
  • Talk with residents to identify potential sites
  • Seek information and advice from other Municipal units that have developed and maintain such sites
7. Increase revenue sources/amounts for the Kids’ Fair Play FUNd
8. Co-manage the development of the ICSP
 
  • Serve on the ICSP Advisory Committee
9. Seek Sources of Funds and Resources to assist in achieving the Goals and Objectives of the Recreation & Parks Department
