In April 2012, the Municipality of the District of Shelburne completed a draft of the Coastal Management Strategy.  This Strategy outlines three goals and a series of actions over five years starting with education followed by planning and policy development.  The intention of this strategy is to increase awareness in our communities to the interaction between development and the natural environment, as well as reduce vulnerability to extreme weather events and climate change.

Download the draft strategy here and contact us to provide feedback.

The initial phase of the coastal management strategy project involved seeking input from the public with gathering anecdotal evidence and information of coastal erosion, collecting photos/videos of changes to coastal areas over time, and any evidence of storms, flooding, climate change etc. and their impact.

The map below summarizes the information collected by two Nova Scotia Youth Conservation Corp students during July and August 2011.
